The preservation challenge

This fundraising initiative has the full support and backing of the Officer Commanding 47 Air Despatch Squadron 13 Air Assault Support Regiment RLC, RAF Brize Norton.

RAF Ground Engineers have already restored the Dakota's broken tail rudder, and now, with the help of a dedicated team of volunteers—including former dispatchers, local businesses and members of the public—we’re preparing for a full-body repaint. This involves hand prepping all exterior surfaces using scrapers and sanders. The painting will be completed carefully by hand, ensuring that this historic plane gets a full weatherproof coat to last for years to come.

Looking ahead, we’ve secured a long-term agreement with SERCO for biannual deep cleans and protective treatments to safeguard the Dakota through all seasons so she will stay protected and looking smart in the future.

Your donations will ensure this iconic aircraft remains a powerful reminder of the past and an enduring symbol for future generations.
